Abstract

We present a model of the international joint venture (IJV) restructuring process and discuss, from a single partner firm's perspective, the steps involved in recognizing a need for restructuring and deciding to restructure. In addition, we examine the organizational processes involved in recognizing a need for restructuring and deciding to restructure, and develop propositions about factors that increase the likelihood that a partner firm will decide to restructure its IJV in response to a genuine need for restructuring. We also note the research implications of our work and its contributions to management practice.

Abstract

Strategic control has recently been recognized to serve two purposes – to ensure that strategy is implemented as planned and to shape strategy content during implementation. While there are many analytical tools available for designing strategic controls that ensure strategy implementation, there are no comparable tools available for designing strategic controls that shape strategy content during implementation. This paper develops a framework for designing strategic controls that shape strategy content during implementation. The paper also illustrates the framework through brief case examples.

Abstract

This paper reports on an empirical study of the strategic decision consequences associated with environmental scanning by MNCs at the HQ‐FS level. The study focuses on decisions that relate to strategic change. After a review of theoretical arguments that relate environmental scanning with strategic change, hypotheses are developed and tested. Results are discussed in light of relevant works in the area, and implications for international management research and practice are noted.

Abstract

This paper examined the relationships between national culture and strategic behavior in the banking industry in Jordan and U.S. The study first developed a strategic posture and secondly a cultural profile for the top management of the research domain. The strategic posture suggested the readiness for strategic response from managers. The degree of readiness was correlated with the constructed cultural profile of the managers and financial performance of the banks. The study found significant relationships between certain national cultural strategic characteristics, (risk propensity, time orientation, and openness to change, uncertainty avoidance and managerial perception of control over the environment) strategic behavior and financial performance.

Abstract

Aim of the present monograph is the economic analysis of the role of MNEs regarding globalisation and digital economy and in parallel there is a reference and examination of some legal aspects concerning MNEs, cyberspace and e‐commerce as the means of expression of the digital economy. The whole effort of the author is focused on the examination of various aspects of MNEs and their impact upon globalisation and vice versa and how and if we are moving towards a global digital economy.

Abstract

Attempts to establish a decision‐making model by which multinational enterprises (MNEs) front‐end financial target can be evaluated and determined. Explains and defines the financial range. Identifies their strategic concerns in order to do this. Continues by exploring the pattern of front‐end financial target variation and the process of its determination, constructing an international joint venture investment supply‐demand model. Elaborates upon how contingency factors in international operations exert direct impact on this matter and gives some considerations for future research.

Abstract

Selected condensation products of aromatic aldehydes and thiosemicarbazide have been synthesized and evaluated as corrosion inhibitors of mild steel in 1N hydrochloric acid and 1N sulphuric acid by weight loss and potentiodynamic polarization methods. The values of activation energy and free energy of adsorption have also been determined to understand the mechanism of inhibition. The potentiodynamic polarization studies carried out at room temperature revealed that all the compounds are of mixed type inhibitors in both the acids. The adsorption of all the condensation products on the mild steel surface from both the acids has been found to obey Temkin’s adsorption isotherm. The inhibition efficiency of these compounds has been found to vary with the nature and concentration of the compounds, temperature, immersion time and nature of the acids.

Abstract

Inhibition of the corrosion of mild steel in 1‐5 N HCl and H2SO4 by a macrocyclic compound viz., tetramethyl‐dithia‐octaazacyclotetradeca hexaene (MTAT) was studied as a corrosion inhibitor by weight loss and electrochemical potentiodynamic polarization methods. The influence of temperature, immersion time and acid concentration was also studied in the presence of MTAT in HCl and H2SO4. The potentiodynamic polarization carried out in 1‐5 N HCl and H2SO4 in the absence and presence of inhibitor revealed that MTAT is a mixed inhibitor. MTAT exhibited better performance as a corrosion inhibitor in H2SO4 and its performance was further improved the addition of KI due to synergism. The adsorption of MTAT on the mild steel surface obeyed Temkin adsorption isotherm.

Abstract

Increased competition amongst the hotel industry players has challenged managers not to focus their attention exclusively on ways to attract and satisfy their customers, but to invest in customer retention strategies with the potential to ensure superior performance of their hotels. This study aims to determine strategies to retain customers in hotels in Ghana, an emerging market. A cross-sectional survey was employed to collect data from 677 hotel employees in 56 Ghanaian licensed hotels. Based on SmartPLS, study findings indicate that customer satisfaction, loyalty and retention embedded in the tangibility and reliability dimensions of the lodging quality index are important for customer retention among hotels in Ghana.
